It is hoped that, in partnership with Edinburgh's LGBT Centre for Health and Wellbeing and the City of Edinburgh Council, Different Strokes will take place once again in Summer 2009.  This initially ran for 10 sessions in 2007.  The Trans Men Scotland concept was made possible through the support and involvement of the same partner organisations.

Who is Different Strokes for?
Different Strokes is a swimming group for all transgender people - whether born male or female at birth.  You do not need to have had any treatment or surgery to attend the group, simply that you find accessing mainstream swimming difficult due to your gender identity.
Where does it take place
Glenogle Swim Centre, Glenogle Road, Edinburgh two Saturdays per month at 4pm.
Do I have to swim?
No, you can also use the fitness equipment or simply have a sauna.
What can I wear in the pool?
If you have not had chest surgery or would feel more comfortable you can wear a close fitting short sleeve t-shirt, either instead or over a swimming costume and swimming shorts, if you prefer.
Can I wear my binder?
We do not recommend that you wear a binder whilst swimming as this might make it difficult for you to swim safely.  Instead you might find a close fitting short sleeved t-shirt will make you feel more comfortable and give you enough freedom to be able to move.
What are the changing facilities like?
Changing is in individual poolside cubicles.  We hope this will give you maximum privacy.  Showers are open, so you can shower in your swimwear if you prefer.
